Family, Community, and Cultural Values

We take pride in cultural diversity, safety, teaching methods, and your child's health......

Overview

With rapid advancement in society, more programs are being offered to assist families with people from different cultures, ethnicity, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Living in El Dorado Hills, we provide for a variety of people from different walks of life. As teachers we give all students a chance regardless of their socioeconomic, language, or cultural background. We teachers at Adventureland Daycare and Preschool, believe knowledge is power and we can act as a guide to students and parents. We are state of the art childcare from safety, honoring diversity, teaching methods, and health.

Safety

To ensure safety, all of our staff undergoes a thorough background checked by the Department of Justice and intense CPR and first aid training. We teachers have to keep up to date on new CPR and first aid procedures by having to retrain every two years. We are licensed for a large family daycare from the State of California. We are also inspected by the El Dorado Hills Fire Marshal to ensure our property is up to code. The state requires us to have an emergency plan and every month we practice fire and evacuation drills with the children. Your children are number one concern and we take their safety very seriously. Another part of my job is training teachers various strategies to deal with students from all walks of life leads to more successful outcomes.

Educational Practices

Teachers can use assessment methods such as an inclusion classroom checklist to ensure that students with disabilities have an equal learning environment. Simple solutions such as checking to make sure walkways are wide enough for wheelchairs or supplies are at an appropriate height for disabled students creates a difference. We do so by making sure our entire toy bins are at eye level or lower. All furniture is from Lakeshore Learning and is very sturdy. An example for accommodating to different age groups is to create sections of the classroom for the appropriate age groups. Since we cater to children from birth to six we have to divide our classroom appropriately. We have our Safari Nursery for infants up to 18 months old. This room is specifically designed as a safe haven for little ones that are learning to sit up, crawl, and walk. There are a variety of toys that offer musical, sensory, and developmental experiences. Everyday we fill out individual infant, toddler, and preschool reports. The reports show meals/how much they ate, diapering/when, mood, and bottle times/how much (if appropriate). The reports also have a section for what they enjoyed doing that day, do not forget, and a notes section. Parents really enjoy these daily memos so they know what their child did during the day and keeping report rules out an ambiguity. We want to maintain strong communication with parents at all times.

Health

Some families have food aversions according to their religion or beliefs. Here at Adventureland Daycare and Preschool we are open and accommodating to food aversions. We respect families who are vegetarians as well. There are children that have allergies so we never serve foods that contain nuts. We follow the California Food Program and are inspected every two to four months. The food program enforces portion size, healthy meals, and offer classroom resources. Meals are recorded daily for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack. With more research on the push to go organic we mostly serve organic and natural foods. In the spring we plant a garden with the children and then harvest our crops together.  We also make homemade marina sauce, salsas, and other sauces with our produce. The children love exploring nature and what better way than to plant a garden?
